SOLDIER Blazes Through Firelands!
The bosses of the firelands cannot stand up to the might of SOLDIER
July 22, 2011 After yet another amazing boss kill SOLDIER moves on to 6/7 progression with only Ragnaros left to slay. We have been closely following the guild’s progress the past couple of weeks following their triumph over Shannox. Their next kill was the notorious spinner of doom, Beth’tilac who gave the raiders quite a bit of initial trouble. Once the upper web strategy was mastered and substitutions were made SOLDIER made quick work of the 8 legged menace. Then it was onto Lord Ryolith who caused an uncommonly high amount to frustration for the raiders of SOLDIER. He was refusing to move when kindly asked to do so by the melee dpsers. It turned out that this was no fault of the notoriously talented melee players but the developers at Blizzard who thought it may be amusing to over tune 10 man raid instances. Once the adjustments were made the melee had no problems driving the boss and the raiders scored a relatively easy kill. They then proceeded to kill Baleroc a fire demon that resembles a similarly named demon from the Lord of the Rings novels. The response from SOLDIER was the same as Gandalf, “You Shall Not Pass” and believe me when I say he didn’t. As a matter of fact he failed harder than a Canadian on a math test, thanks to the masterful healers and the coordination of the dps.
With four bosses down, SOLDIER now faced the hardest boss of the instance, Alysrazor, a fiery bird that has no remorse for slaying talented raiders and who is particularly sensitive to people messing with her feathers. Yet again, the blizzard developers had made an error. This error was resolved, however, after a 42 hour wait on a ticket opened by raid leader Pardeux. When the fight was first attempted the feathers that allow players to fly were not properly working for Redhots due to an innate weight limit. While the developers were not happy about having to spend extra resources to make this fight doable by Redhots, they begrudgingly fixed this “bug”. With that out of the way the raiders faced other challenges, especially with tanks being able to dps their hatchilings in time and players being unable to avoid the fiery pillars. Once these challenges were overcome the players lavished in their hard earned victory.
It seemed that downing Alysrazor would not be enough for the raiders, so they proceeded to Majordomo Staghelm, a Fiery druid with a fetish for shape shifting . The raiders quickly nailed down about 90% of the fight scoring a few almost kills in some relatively early attempts. However, a phase involving baleroc style crystals coupled with RNG fiery circles of doom made the fight much more tricky. After spending an evening getting it down pat the raiders made a clean kill. With only about 32 hours of raiding in Firelands the raiders of SOLDIER are engaged in a 3 way tie for second place, being only behind the world renowned Gentlemen of Leisure.
Following the raid our field reporter was able to acquire select interviews with some of the mighty SOLDIER raiders.
Q: Robespierre, How have you handle the strain of providing cauldrons for the raid as well as put in the necessary preparation time for your raids? Are your healers really as good as people around Orgrimmar say or do you sometimes fear for your life?
A: I must say that I have not really noticed any extra stress since becoming the guild’s flask provider. We are raiding at a higher level so I have adapted accordingly, that is what professionals must do. As for the healers, I would expect they are about as good as people say. Healing really is easy and let’s be honest, tanking is by far the most difficult job in a raid. I do not often worry about my life but that is mainly because I have a lot of control over the amount of damage I take. Being pro using (my) cool downs makes our healers look like superstars.
Q: Redhots, how have you adapted to flight, especially after being grounded most of your life?
A: I must say that I take offense to your tone sir, you say “grounded” as if it is an abnormal thing. How many other 400 lb birds with 3 foot wings do you see flying? Didn’t think so. I mean penguins can’t fly and people are not asking them why they are grounded. But I digress… I have really enjoyed flight so far and after the bug allowing me to fly was fixed I was excited to get up there and show everyone what I could do. Pardeux also assured me that Alysrazor kept a stash of smoked sausages up there and I feel that provided me more motivation to ascend to the heavens. Overall, a very enjoyable experience I will look forward to taking flight again.
Q: Artemis, you have overcome quite a few hurdles in your wow career. How have you managed to go from zero to hero in only a few short years?
A: A lot has to do with hard work. I read a lot about my class and worked hard at perfecting my rotation. I spent many long hours listening to eye of the tiger while striking target dummies. The secret is that I know I can always get better. That being said I still train as if it is only weeks before the big raid. Being around others who share this ethic has been a great help also. I am very glad to see all the hard work paying off in progression kills.
With 6 bosses down the raiders will prepare to face Ragnaros, the fiery lord who is angry about losing his legs. It is a very complex fight with many phases that hopefully the raiders will adapt to and complete with ease. This has been another edition of Raider’s weekly, thank you for reading ! We are glad to be your source of cutting edge raiding news!

Shannox Vows Revenge!
Shannox enraged over what he deems a "mishap"
July 1, 2011 Shannox was outraged after an embarrassing debacle involving himself and the renowned guild SOLDIER. During the first week of the Firelands raid, Pardeux set out with his team of new talent and old favorites to once again protect Azeroth from the new dangers that threaten the realm. Our inside reporters caught a glimpse of the pre raid speech that Pardeux delivered to his raiders. He reported that it was very inspirational, Pardeux really built the speech up and his heartfelt and powerful speech inspired all of those around him. An excerpt is printed below.
“We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it's fate that we are all here again today, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom... Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution... but from annihilation. We are fighting for our right to live. To exist. And should we win the day, We will no longer consider ourselves merely individuals, will no longer be known as just some guild on Dawnbringer, but as the guild that declared to the world: "We will not go quietly into the night!" We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we stand as SOLDIER!” -Pardeux 6/28/2011
Following the speech the heroes of SOLDIER descended into the Firelands. After a few hours of dealing with fiery elementals, ridiculously high health trash mobs, and Super Mario™ koopa shells of doom, the raiders were at their first raid encounter, Shannox. This scaly pirate did not hold back at all, throwing traps and spears at the raiders and seizing his overly angry pit fighter dogs at the raid. The raiders dispatched the dogs and then Shannox, who in a later interview attributed his loss to “Tripping over a dog bone and spraining his ankle.” Shannox also commented that he “Would still be running 10 minute laps round the firelands race track if it weren’t for those darned nosey kids!” No matter what the cause Shannox was forced to hand over two of his precious purple loots. This kill propelled the guild to World rank 252, a personal high for the raiders at SOLDIER.
WoWProgress.com shows SOLDIER as a World Rank 252
During the 10 minute raid break following the kill, our field reporter was able to capture a few comments from some of the players.
Q: Zallafiel, how would you say that your healers and tanks performed in the encounter today? Were there any special things that you had to do to contribute to their survivability?
A: I don’t know about all that… This guy had an eye patch. He was scaly, big, and associated with fire, that is close enough to a dragon for me so I got my axe on him ricky tick tick. I also wanted that eye patch.
Q: Pokie, being the new guy how have you enjoyed this raiding experience and where do you see yourself in 6 months?
A: The raiding has been fun so far but my contract specifically says I am to receive “copious amounts of white women to be my entourage”. I think Pardeux needs to deliver on some of his promises or I may be looking elsewhere to raid, I hear south beach might be recruiting. The only thing keeping me here right now is a little smoking piece of eye candy they call Redhots. Damn does she have a big ass for a white girl but she is smoking hot! I see myself tapping that in the next 6 months!
Q: Ahan, in the past you were a healer but in Cataclysm you have stepped up to be a main tank for SOLDIER. How has that transition been for you? Any tips for those aspiring youngsters back home who someday hope to tank for the prestigious guilds?
A: Well I have always just been a raider first and foremost. I have fond memories of my branch flailing days but I knew that Pardeux and his crew would get the job done. I really am enjoying being the furry recipient of destruction but I must say it takes a lot more skill than healing these days. I could swear sometimes I see the healers picking their noses with boredom. I do miss the days though, when I could just jump around and HoT people up… Perhaps on off spec just to show I still have it. As for the kids at home, keep your chins up and eat your green vegetables. They are good for you, eh.
On a sadder note the rest of the raid week was met with great challenge. The raiders required more coordination on the fiery widow, Bethilac. And there were some bugs or issues with turning Lord Ryolith properly. The raiders look to capitalize on improved gear and knowledge and go in for more progression next week. Until then thank you for reading Raiders Weekly, your source for cutting edge raiding news!

Updates from the Soldier Exchequer
|
Welcome to our newest and most esteemed members of the Cash Money Millionaires and Billionaires Club! This is your faithful servant Donktronika, Chancellor of the Soldier Exchequer. I know what you are thinking, “What the hell is an Exchequer?” Well that big word you just saw means “bank” you luddite fucks. I realize most of you are “new money” but you best be acting like Blue Bloods now. That means commandeering Dalaran for our own personal mammoth polo matches, watching the Ogrimmar duels from the luxury box on the ramparts while we drink our South Island Iced Tea, participating in high stakes games of dice with Tronn, blowing your load on 49k mounts to compensate for being an inferior dps class and rolling in your new found piles of money like Uncle Elkix does in his money bin.
As many of you may have noticed, the first dividends from your shares in the Soldier Exchequer were disbursed this week. Expect more of those to come. If you don’t care where this money is coming from and only want to spend it on loose tauren and nose candy, then read no further and go visit Robespierre, PPA. For those of you who do care, here’s the highly sophisticated Ponzi Scheme we have engineered: You participate in raid, BOEs drop, no one can use said BOEs, we sell said BOEs, BACONATORS AND FAKE RABBIT VAJAYJAY!!!! Errr, refined celebration with champagne and your finest milk steak.
The formula is simple, if we sell a BOE then 50% of the proceeds will go to the Exchequer and the other 50% will be given as dividends. Of the 50% going towards loose women and blow, 75% will go to the 10 people active in the raid at the time of the drop. The other 25% will be divided among any remaining Core Raiders not present.
As an example, let’s say that “Soul Blade” drops, no one can use it, and the Exchequer is able to AH it for a profit of 10k. Then 5k will go to savings and 5k will be given as dividends from your trust fund. The 10 raid members who were present for the drop will each get 375g = (5,000*0.75)/10. Let’s say Zazuch, Elkix, Artemis, Redhots and Robespierre were not at the raid, they will each receive 250g = (5,000*25)/5.
As Chancellor of the Exchequer I have worked with the officers of the Cash Money Millionaires and Billionaires to finalize a few other more minor financial matters. Effective as of Level 16, guild raid repair funds will be increased. As always, this should only be used on raid nights. Once we have the large cauldron for guild flasks, all flasks will be free of charge. Until then please remember to provide Robespierre 75g or 1 flask each week for him making the cauldrons.
A future policy in its infancy stage will allow every core raider a “wish list” BOE item. The Exchequer will, based upon current funds, buy those items if they appear on the AH or trade. Once a purchase is made, the Exchequer will then have to wait until regaining a predetermined amount of capital before it can make another transaction. Again, this is still under discussion and is one potential of how your money is working for you. Until then, keep your undead female banking toons dancing in the streets of Org.
